Bonchon Fried Chicken, Overeasy

It was an EARLY day in the heritage musuem and thru the tour and subsequently thats to the nice G and C i got my Green Tea Soy Latte fix that morning, before Mr Bean too ! Vascular folks rock.

We started at BonChon Fried Chicken (B4 Ion Orchard) and our second visit meant we are gonna try others on the menu and this is our new favourite! Katsu Chicken burger. Gosh where do I start.. everything about this is fried food goodness - including the fried mantau.. It was most delicious with the kimchi coleslaw generously laden over the fried battered chicken.

The tofu and Kimichi rice set wasn't a big deal and was really too oriental for us ! It was the similar Kimchi coleslaw over the rice as it was in the burger.
the beloved 6 piece chicken set! All the wings to K and the drums to me. The best ever crispy sauce laden skin. Go for the chilli ones, the soy garlic one don't pack much of a punch. Gotta warn you the wings and drumlets are really quite tiny, they seem quite much like an appetiser.
The previous photos at Bonchon were taken by Kel's camera so I'm not sure if the fries look the same - but don't you think they look rather festive with the seasoning??
Avatar was no doubt, gorgeous but with a very old school storyline. It challenges you to think how we forget we live in an eco-system with other more powerful animals than us - who can soar the skies, and who can prance faster than us and many of our modern inventions are inspired to achieve that similar power we lack. We have become a dominant species despite a lack of such powerful characteristics. We forget what it is like to be hunted, and to hunt and gather our foods. (An Omnivore's Dilema is an excellent book, reinforcing how modern eating is most pathetic). Energy is only borrowed as mentioned in the library - machines and man-made energy is all but made with Earth's resources, and we are nothing with these, and our minds.
And the dreaming and letting your consciousness control your avatar - where does your consciousness go when you are dreaming? We wake to feed our dreams (as quoted in OHCM) and its always a wonder why we spend so much of our (or rather, mine!) lifetime sleeping. Recently MYB featured a sleep article, which rationalises that our most violent and sexual moments happen in our dreams because of the disinhibition of the frontal lobe, which serves to restrict our primitive urges. It suppresses the animalistic urges of incest, rape, murder - acts which are ironically, essential to survival in the animal kingdom.
There was evidently many messages in the movie - from Savin Gaia to the wars, and even the greed of corporate companies (in obtaining the tree's unvaluable resources) ignoring the savage of the plebians in doing so. Who are the real aliens in such instances - what right should we have over another species in claiming territories?
We watched many many Sci fi shows this year - including Moon, District 9 and Transformers (in declining preference) and I have to say that Moon is my Sci-Fi show of 2009 (or maybe even the movie of the year). Fantastic plot with minimal budget and actors even, it is a great piece of work.
The transition from human to avatar right at the end of the show is so similar to the transition i just read about in Her Fearful Symmetry ! (by the author of Time Travellor's Wife). This book had some interesting twists in the story, which was eerily similar to the show, given how i JUST completed the book.
Anyway, it was so many obstacles to watching Avatar - from opening day (J!!!!!!!!!!!! pangseh going to watch with your friends at night) and Friday (Princess and the Frog so we don't betray too =) to Monday (J's birthday and misst the show at TB). Tues before Singhealth's was most impossible so it became Wednesday...I'm sure you can sense how some buzz has died on the way there...
We went to the Library where I returned two books (Hot Flat and Crowded seems quite relevant after Avatar) and then decided at One Fullerton but before we began the trek there we went to Raffles City (in a bid to buy Root Beer but it has disappeared) so we went to Yoguru (B1 Raffles City) for the Mixed Yoguberry/Original. This is my favourite yoghurt icecream amongst all simply because of the creaminess of it all and its huge portion for $4.30!
Check out the white balls floating on the river and the no entry sign to boats!
We reached Overeasy (One Fullerton) and we were dying to try the Mac and Cheese. The Good Ol' Mac and Cheese tastes similar to the one at the White Rabbit Bar, which is no surprise, given how they're sister restaurants. But I love the fluid cheese with the crisp baked top of the macaroni, with crumbs all over.
Burger of the month is a Turkey Burger with BBQ sauce. It tastes pretty much like what you expect, really, with chunks of turkey meat aplenty and a tangy roasted pineapple slice in between. Avoid the stinging raw onions. Loved the bun - but I say, go for the To die for Burger.
But I must say I was most disappointed with the Haystack Fries with Parmesan!!! (I refuse to photograph it) It was really most un-crisp to the tad of being soggy despite us asking for it to be replaced. I was really disappointed cos I remembered the first time it was super awesome - and it was I say WAS my favourite skinny fries ever.
We chatted till 930pm all the way in the Billy Bombers like enclave of ours and Kels loved the ambience of our place, despite being packed. Reminiscing alot about secondary school like Mao (hahaha) and what could have been. Yes, what could have happened if we didnt make our choices then! Thank goodness!
And the queue at Butter...was just crazy.
Passed by Udders otw back but no cars outside - so I really really dared not pop in to get a pint. Then zoomed over to upper Bukit Timah to meet the aus folks - it was hilarious with flyfairy getting tekaned about going to wards in eye, and the terribleness of how people are and how they're still gonna get their own way anyway. Merry Christmas everyone!!

Botak Jones, Frolick, Provence

Marc, Jeremy, Kelly and I the biggest eaters in our group went for the 5 - for -4 offer at Botak Jones (Clementi). Massive.
Anyway, decided to dig up these photos of Botak (I think during Paeds! Why was I so busy then doing what??) cos we went again TODAY (Monday of week 2, gen med..only a ccf lect in the morning with some otot neuros) ! but no more 5 for 4 cos Marc wasn't around went to meet his dear ortho boss and lunched with his parents at the place I missed out. And I didn't bring my camera!!! So part 2 of Botak madness at Youth Park is gonna be sponsored by Kelly's iPhone. We had the same 3 dishes as the top 3 ones in this entry.
Fish and Chips - the breaded fish was most crisp
Cajun Chicken is Jeremy's favourite
Smoked Turkey Sandwich is a new favourite for me! More slabs of meat than the Cold Cut Trio at Subway, defos.
Steak.
The rojak at the stall next to Botak at Clementi's just your regular ones, if you need a rojak fix (we were greedy =P)
One of the boys drove so they headed straight to school to sleep so Kels and I continued over at Frolick (Holland V) where Kelly had her first taste of it...WE LOVE THE ZOUK ONE FOR ONE! Peach and Original - $1.80 with the zouk card.
Need to kuai kuai go collect my new one so we can max it out at the Cineleisure branch of Frolick! Sure very thirsty after all that popcorn
All our breads at Provence (Holland Village) for the CTS lecture later - Hazel and Chris were in front of us and were most amused....Kaya Wassant, Brazilian Cheese, Chocolate, Milk Pan.
Part 2 of Botak Madness - at Youth Park this time - coming up!
Watched 2012 today too...Makes us ponder if indeed there are contingency plans that governments are planning to save humanity in case of a calamity - and the issue of eugenics in saving who within mankind. Do we forget the many other species sharing this planet?
This kinda corelates to my reading of Thomas Friedman's (Cool surname!) Hot Flat and Crowded and it is amazing how many species are getting extinct every day... and each loss is a tragedy, a loss of a relative to mankind. Take for example, the mammal, the baiji Yangtze dolphin - one of the few freshwater dolphins in the world and are not longer in the waters of the Yangtze River (bless my ignorance, I didn't know dolphins swam in rivers!) Are we gonna do a Joan of Arc feat when calamity strikes, when we cant even save our own kind?
THe book moves on to talk about how humans built a really inefficient environment with the greatest efficiency ever known to man. What will we trade for convenience, connection with our other fellow human beings, and globalisation? It is ironic that we are as estranged to each other more than ever (not to mention other species), resorting to technology for solace. When was the last time you ever saw an eco-system in its entirety, something that is not planned or planted by your government (haha). And to power this race, all our power sources from below the ground- or 'hell' - like coal, fossil fuels are all polluting Mother Earth, and irrenewable, whereas the future should be towards energy sources from 'heavens' - from above ground - clean, renewable sources such as hydroelectric and solar power, and biomass.
Enough about the environment and natural calamities already, Marc and J left us and I walked with Kels to the Prologue - the new Popular at Ion (most surprised in my Chinese books phase), and before that we were rather depressed cos NO MORE A&W ROOT BEAR CREAM SODA !! SCREAMS WHO WIPED IT OUT!!!
Checked out shoes at Cole Han and the other crazy headache inducing shoe shop before we ate the BEST MINI FRIED CHICKENS EVER!! 4 Fingers Bon Bon Chicken, you are my new crave. Laters!

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe, Barcook Bakery, Yami Yoghurt

Had a super insipid Jap curry salmon lunch at the Jap place at YIH (i cant even remember the name!) with the CG minus Marc and Jeremy meeting a friend at Subway, after morning ward rounds and a super-quick falls tutorial with R.M. before having to vacate the place for the incoming HOs where we found out there was this baby bear book equivalent for the NUH HOs by HOs. And it turns out we ate the insipid lunch for NOTHING cos the afternoon orthoG tutorial got cancelled (postponed to Sports Day, Doh).

So Kelly and I arranged our own tutorial with the dolphins, wanting to catch the Cove but its a whooping 10 bucks at Cinema Europa at Vivo so we're waiting for a good time to watch at PS (so that 10 bucks can buy us student price ticket plus popcorn). Meanwhile we almost wanted to go back but a glimpse at Toast Box rocketed us down the NEL line to Chinatown to...

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe (133 New Bridge Road #03-01 Chinatown Point)My second time here. I discovered a new blog sistablog and the writers do seem to like the same stuff as Kelly and me! Actually we wanted to try the peanut thick toast (below - as recommended by the blog) but we still ordered the Ciabatta Kaya toast anyway. Today's was DAMN FRIGGIN GOOD I proclaim this to be my top Kaya thick toast. The kaya is eggy and lumpy (mixed with the butter) and the bread is crusty, with the soft in betweens. Kaya heaven, for a while.

The owner gave the writers of sistablog a sample of this Peanut butter with condensed milk thick toast - we had whole meal bread with this. Kelly spotted that they use Skippy's Peanut butter but overall, we couldnt really discern the taste of the condensed milk and this is quite replicable at home (the Ciabatta Kaya toast is not replicable though and warrants repeat visits)
We couldnt resist going to Barcook Bakery ( Blk 531 Upper Cross Street #01-54 Hong Lim Complex) to eat the Raisin cream cheese bread. Today's wasnt as awesome as the first time we ate it - we rationalised that its cos we were sharing that very time - sharing makes everything taste better. Company matters! Maybe also cos the bread wasnt straight right out of the oven - the cheese wasnt scorching. But the bread is as soft as ever, the sweet rummy raisins taste awesome with the cheese.

However, we tried a new bread, the coconut bread - which we shared and it DID taste better in Kelly's opinion...has a crusty layer, and the coconut doesnt fall apart easily (like the grated kind I had in Hong Kong which was IMHO much better than this) and Kelly postulates that the coconut was prob mixed with custard. She proclaims this is the best bread of the day.

Actually the whole excuse of getting to Chinatown was cos we were going to Ocean to get toiletries (dropping by.........) and we were aunties for the later part of the afternoon..

Headed down to Bugis to the National Library where I happily borrowed the Omnivore's Dilemma (finally!) and couldnt resist my third icecream of the day (after Mr Bean, and Milo icecream) at Yami Yoghurt (B1, Bugis Junction)- this is the peach flavour. Being $2.30 its much cheaper than Frolick (at $3.50 a pop if its not for the one-for-one Zouk offer). Its slightly creamier than the sorbet like Frolick, but not as creamy than Yoguru (which is still my favourite cos its the creamiest and sweetest and biggest).

Later on met JM at Starbucks whilst getting my mandatory Soy Latte. Must meet up soon! The last time we met was when we were having chicken rice at Margaret Drive Food Centre and fantasizing about that abominition of a Awfully Chocolate-Island Cremery - Chocolate sauce- M&Ms all in one dessert. Lets go for it.

Holland Village - El Patio Mexican Restaurant, Frolick, Coffee Club

Met up with E and Jas at El Patio Mexican Restaurant (34 Lorong Mambong Holland Village)- slept the entire day only for E to be my alarm clock! Zoomed down stat to meet them at Ya Kun and handing her two matching shoes and apt Garfield late-ness card before moving down to the restaurant.
Sat at the al fresco area with red lighting so its terrible photos, and worse still, the dark shadown on the bottom right corner. Ugh, lurking everywhere! I refuse to photoshop.

This place is one up against Cha cha cha for its complimentary chips and salsa!

The sizzling smoked chicken fajitas is the house favourite and everyone seems to be having it (you hear the sound almost every other minute) and yes you might end up smelling like smokin meat too. I thought it was pretty average actually, tender chicken chunks to wrap in the soft tortilla wraps.
We didnt have enough of the chips so had a Nachos Grande to share - this has chicken, cheese, guacomole. The nachos at Cafe Iguana is much missed!
Salmon and Prawn Burrito - this is my favourite for the night. Rich in creamy sauces and meat, this was a real delight. Portion's a tad small though.
Cheese Quesidillas - it tastes exactly like a cheese prata foldover. EXACTLY. The oily, crisp flour especially.
The original plan was to go to Mykii for desserts but the dessert menu looked limited and wasn't tempting enough so we decided to walk out. Couldnt resist a trip to Frolick (Holland Village) despite NOT BRINGING THE ZOUK CARD!!! (I think I lost it actually.....) And this time its cos there is a new blue berry flavour that I haven't tried! Only tried the peach and original. This one is real sweet.
Had round 2 of desserts at Coffee Club (Holland Village). Mudpie - this looks huge but perfectly conquerable. The best part is the dense oreo base amidst oreo crumbs and the sinfully rich chocolate sauce. The icecream actually had icicles within so not the dense creamy ones at Udders.
Walnut Nougat Parfait - my bad for ordering this for it tasted like fluff after the mudpie.
Somehow the Holland V area lacks good desserts...... 2 am dessert bar is just too inaccessible for a big sugar rush..probably just a ripple in my bid for hyperglycemia.

Ikoi, Frolick, District 9, Mei Heong Yuen (Ion)

Today we finally fulfilled our craving for a jap buffet (although I already indulged last week first!) at Ikoi (01-01, Miramir Hotel).
Since I just had a previous buffet last week, obviously my stamina would have deproved and I'd also no doubt make comparisons between the two. The winner: Irodori at Riverview Hotel - more of the stuff I like such as eel and soft shell crab is not available at Ikoi. Actually, the old Ginga restaurant at Riverview Hotel triumps everything, but I guess the existence of people like me put it to extinction -_-
We had lunch here at Ikoi and per pax it was $38, all in. I believe its the same price for both lunch and dinner. At Riverview Hotel, with the 3 for price of 2 lunch buffets (must present voucher), I believe its 27 bucks per pax all in. (or You can make use of the UOB 25% discount offer for lunch)
At Ikoi, they tend to give you alot of 'complimentary' stuff like the above appetiser of salmon (the only one which is not bad). At Riverview Hotel, the 2 complimentary dishes - green tea tofu (good) and jumbo prawns (excellent!!) I don't mind more, but I think Ikoi is a little nasty making you full with soupy stuff. And fibre (oh but I didnt mind the vegetable sticks cos the miso dip was so delicious)
Both serve excellent very fresh sashimi - my favourite's still salmon, yellowtail and swordfish. Since the hotels are just opposite from each other.......can conclude...same fish supplier???
California rolls... they've got a rather limited sushi menu.,
Agadeshi tofu
Ebi tempura which Marc ate +++++ (he can order 50 at one go) he says when he comes here with his brother they challenge each other to accumulate more tails on their plates...cute lar...
Mackeral and salmon - must say the fried salmon was really smooth and delicious.
So did this particular cut of salmon...Excellent.
This was so huge we couldnt figure out whether it was aubergine or was it wild yam...but it was really good and mushy with minced meat atop..
You can figure that this paper steamboat is complimentary..the salmon inside is most bony...
Japanese Porridge which Marc ordered....he forgot its the one at Raku which was excellent..
One more breath, Julie....
Missed out alot of photos cos many hungry boys = food disappears in a flash
Went to my house to chill before Dedrick returns with Marc's poker chips and obviously it was streetfighter/wii/massive $$$ at the dining table before Kelly and I adjourned to Holland V for yoghurt ice cream at Frolick.
Damn depressed when I couldnt find my Zouk card to get the 1-for-1!!!! Oh well I guess it makes up for the time the girl mistook the offer for Free icecream on presentation of card and gave it to me complimentary =P
When we got to Cineleisure it was way past 6 pm = no more student offer= ;(
but wait!!! I quickly ask for card offers and guess what..... Pay by nets and its $6 per pax Mon to thurs!
I say again, PAY BY NETTS TO WATCH AT CATHY FROM MON TO THURS ITS SIX BUCKS !!!!
Now no need to rush to watch before 6pm anymore.....and no need so sad to graduate with no more student pass...
Anyway, we went to watch District 9. I know its a sci-fi thriller full of gore but I actually fell asleep - its not boring at all but the previous night i had friggin insomnia and only slept 2 hours (before HPPS called!!!!!! tmd wake me up I cant sleep anymore) and the cine seats are just too comfortable.
Its one of the better sci fi I watched but it doesnt beat one that I watched years ago - about flesh eating creatures being quarantined into an island - and the children of an affected mother wanted to enter the island to rescue her. Affected creatures were screened by an iris test and the children turned out to be valuable genetic material because they were carriers of the affected gene, and could potentially be tapped to make vaccines. I cant friggin remember the title so tell me if you know ! (think my synopsis too lousy also)
Anyway, District 9 has a political analogy - it was inspired by historical events that took place in District Six, an inner-city residential area in Cape Town in South Africa under apartheid. In 1966, District 6 was declared a "whites only" area by the apartheid government and for the next several decades, 60,000 people were forcibly removed and relocated to Cape Flats, 25 kilometres away.
Anyway luckily my friend Kelly is a good storyteller so despite me taking a 10 min power nap (during the climax somemore, sigh) I managed to keep up with the series of events... Took a long stroll to Ion with her explaining everything from the Papa/mama (haha) to the baby.
Anyway, most of the stalls were closing already when we reached Ion. We got very excited when we spotted Mei Heong Yuen at Ion (B4). What a surprise ! Kelly's a little disappointed it has become commercialised, but I was pretty amused that Marc's cravings for dessert earlier during the buffet was fulfilled by us (albeit without him!). And somemore when I texted him on my way home he was actually on the way there to celebrate someone's birthday! Speak about coincidence.
I tried their durian ice before and i really liked it. I liked their sweet durian puree over their fine shaved ice. But this Yam ice ($5).....
On first glance, doesnt the lilac remind you of a Khong Guan Yam Pau? (which I used to be obsessed with during a particular sports camp - so much so that they suggest hanging a Yam Pau in front of me so I can chase it all around and be more proactive during the camp =P)
Oh it tastes alot like a diluted yam pau/paste....no puree leh!!
Anyway we came just before 10pm, very near their closing time. The owner was very friendly so we overlooked her overlooking our order. Our banter went something like this :

Q: Why the yam ice so purple ahh?? In your poster so pale leh.
A: Oh, different mah, the lighting. And we use real yam. (Isn't it the same case for both??)
Q: What happened to the raisins and cranberries in the poster?? can you add into our one?
A: Oh we no longer stock those cos customer feedback, say too hard and clashes with the yam taste.
Q: Anything else we can add to make it less bland?? really very bland leh....
A: Oh, its an acquired taste (But we like yam what !!!) , supposed to be very light. The ones in Taiwan taste very good cos the raw ingredients there very fresh, different from the ones we have here (and still dare to sell???)
Q: Yaahh Ma'am, we suggest adding in yam chunks, taro paste, or maybe even red bean??
A: Supposed to be a LIGHT acquired taste, cannot have contrasting flavours. Maybe can try our red bean green tea ice instead???

Then to appease us - not say we very agitated what... -_- she went to the kitchen then offered us this brown sugar conical jelly - gives this slightly spicy after taste (although she was taken aback when we reported our findings. She said that she was coming up with a new longan combination then I didn't quite catch - not particularly excited but Kelly was haha. So she's adding this new jelly to the new ice flavour.
The brown sugar jelly did add such a contrast to the yam ice, chewy bursting pearls and firm jelly tubes =)
We saw the last few pieces of Min jiang Kueh at Pinle (B4, Ion) and couldnt resist buying - Kels the peanut and cheese, I got the cheese one. I love the thin dough batter, just the right proportion and I love the melted cheese too! I like this cold one even better than the freshly made Mr Bean cheese pancake (thanks ah Kelly for spreading the addiction =P)
And today is the day we spotted 4 white Lambos !! Kelly has such as astute sense of hearing Lambos she could identify one auditarily I was rather amazed...They were zooming all over time one after another!! Eat dust man.

Graze, Laurent Bernard Chocolateir, FREE Frolick!, Marina Barrage

A recent fetish for breakfast food brought me to Graze (4 Rochester Park Tel: 6775 9000 ) with the girls on a Sunday morning.. Yes I am an early bird now I've finally kicked the nasty nocturnal habit and it feels great to kick start a day with a mighty big breakfast especially with the fantastic company of my closest friends.
Graze offers brunch only on Sundays and they serve modern Australian food. Their popular barbeque menu is also available during lunch on Sundays - although I hardly saw anyone eating that - everyone was tucking into the yummy brunch food.
I booked an indoor seat but we realised its much nicer to dine al fresco..there are no mosquitoes and we actually sat under a tree (which has low lying leaves - and we are all very tall). We were very scared throughout the whole meal that the leaves and branches will fall all over the food but luckily it didnt.

The ambience here is great for a Sunday breakfast ! Very relaxing sitting in the rattan chairs in the courtyard amongst the plants and water features. I feel like I am having breakfast in someone's house...overseas! Yes, the huge influx of expats is inevitable..

We were served complimentary toast with marmalade and butter.. It was thick toast and there was some variety in the bread- white and multigrain (although it wasnt very nutty). The marmalade was very good though, a very slight lemony taste.

The cast iron pan $18
Bratwurst sausage, Smoked bacon, mushroom, tomato, baked beans, country potato, plum chilli salsa
I didn't eat the meats, but this breakfast fry up is not as massive as it sounds.. very protein loaded and quite an oily feast - I especially liked the mushrooms.
Cinnamon raisin french toast $13
drizzled with maple syrup
simon johnson double cream

This was FANTASTIC! It was Eliza's and my favourite dish ! The french toast was crisp and the cinnamon taste was really permeating through the bread - divine with the slightly sweet double cream and the bits of raisins. You don't even need to add much maple syrup. I would return for this.
Banana pancakes $13
smothered in grilled bananas, walnuts and redcurrant syrup
with icecream

I thought the pancakes were rather floury and they crumble quite easily.. They are cinammon flavoured I think - certainly not banana flavoured. All these adjectives in front of pancakes are SO misleading! Like I thought the Coconut pancakes at Jones meant the coconut permeated the pancakes but it seems like in both cases they were not what they seemed! And all of us thought the redcurrant syrup was butterscotch and Jasmine and I drowned our pancakes in the syrup because it tasted so good. I prefer the fluffier pancakes at Rider's Cafe though.

Simply eggs benedict $16
with smoked salmon and spinach
There is a classic version and I figure that must be the version with the ham since Eggs Benedict always come with ham. But here, there is the option of smoked salmon and spinach instead. I always look forward to poached eggs (cos I cant seem to get it right at home) and I simply cant resist this whenever I have breakfast outside! This is good, it is like a combination of what I had at Rider's Cafe (spinach) and Choupinette (smoked salmon). I cant find any fault in this - everything is perfectly done from the egg to the smoked salmon, muffin and the Hollandaise sauce, although I still prefer the Eggs Royal at Choupinette if given a choice.
Ooh awesome runny egg yolk.
All our yummy food! (too bad about the half eaten cast iron pan!)
The mystery of the sweet tinge of strawberry-lime in your iced water solved.
For those nocturnals who don't believe in waking up for breakfast (I am reformed but I might not stay so for long =P), the last order is at 2.30pm. Reservations are recommended esp for al fresco seating.

And of cos desserts are a must with the girls and we went to Laurent's Cafe & Chocolate Bar (5B Portsdown Road #01-02 Wessex Village Square)

We were able to spy in the kitchen (and take all the photographs we want) because we sat at the common courtyard (shared with Pietrasanta) right inside and again it was another al fresco affair...
But it was worth the sweltering effort cos it is so interesting watching the chef at work! Eventually Mr Bernard (no this photograph is not of him the photophobic creature, of cos - he is not balding - yet) did appear and oh my the stuff he made were really droolicoius..
Though it was sweltering hot (the area is not as nicely ventilated as Graze's) - the music was really good - it is like those from a gramophone and again chilling here feels like being in someone else's home away from home. And no, the cafe didnt play that old English music - there was art exhibition going on and that was where the music was coming from. Again it was another interesting sight watching the patrons waltz in and out and a very curious group of children seemingly having an art lesson in the midst of it all..

Although the oil from the canvas was quite smelly, we were so zen that we hardly noticed.
Pleasure $9.80
Of cos good desserts played a big part in the zen-ness I finally got to try the Pleasure cake and oh my, it was really good! Layers of milk chocolate with the crisp hazelnut layer - easily collapsible but heck, the mess is so delicious. The top layer was really quite soft though - goes to show how hot the weather was to melt the chocolate layer so quick .

Chocolate tart, $6.50
I blogged about this before and would gladly blog about it again because thin as it is, the tart is awesome nonetheless - layers of chocolate and hazelnut chocolate on a flaky base - I was careful not to let the raspberry sauce contaminate the cocoa goodness though..
Iced Chocolate
Yi Qian ordered this and I stole a sip - it was rather powdery though and it is really very rich.
Don't waste your money (and calories) on their fruit drinks or fruit teas. Taste very syrupy according to those who ordered.
Porstdown Road is part of the Wessex estate where there are many colonial bungalows and there are many art gallery and eateries. We spent the lazy afternoon just strolling around the rustic area, and chanced upon this patch..We loved the tire hanging from the tree... Yes of cos the thought of who looped the rope through the impossible tree branch did pop up...

Then we wondered into one of the bungalows because we were lured by the fantastic unplugged music..It is amazing how good she is considering she only picked up the guitar 4 months back and she only sings her own music!
We entered through the doors and surprised by the gorgeous black and white films
Every piece is stunning..
The lady who owns these says that black and white film photography lasts forever (not colour) and she develops all these in a dark house within the same bungalow..she has an open house as and when she wishes and at other times she photographs others..
This is my favourite photograph..I love this couple-ish photo of innocence...
Alright..we shall go back to civilisation..we were back to town to get to the Harvey Norman sale..
So we landed at Millenia walk and of cos after changing locations we needed a snack so we landed here at Frolick (level one, Millenia walk)
Peach Flavoured Yoghurt, FREE!
I blogged about it before, but with the Zouk card, it is FREE! Free stuff taste the best sometimes!

Then we wandered into Chocolate Research Facility (Level One, Millenia Walk).. and had more free stuff! We sampled the Peanut butter chocolate and chocolate crunch chocolate..then he dished out more mystery samples and we totally couldnt guess the Mango flavour.

The many many mind boogling flavours - I even saw black sesame and tea flavoured chocolates. Chocolates are between 8-12 bucks per small bar. I'd rather invest in Laurent's, actually.
Again there is another Zouk offer - with every 5 bars there is a discount.
There is a bar here where you can order the brownies or the drinks..
For me, the vibe of this place doesnt make me feel like wolfing down chocolate(unlike Laurents, I could live on the chocolate scent of his cafe). When chocolate becomes as scientific as this, it loses its traditional home made feel don't you think? You lose the sense of who makes your chocolate or what goes into the chocolate.. I guess the contrast is especially obvious since we went to Laurents today and spent most of our time spying through the glass doored kitchen, watching the chef delicately hand make those delicate chocolates.
Went to Candy Empire (Level one, Millenia Walk) for some sweets and this Wonka sweet promised some tingling fun but NO THERE WASNT ANY! Friggin cheated of my $2.50 when I could have gotten Prez sweets at 1 buck instead.
But the colours are so pyschedelic and happyfying and the fruity taste was equally tasty.
Yi Qian had a fried food craving so of cos Jas and I koped some of her fried chicken from Shihlin Taiwan Snacks (Suntec City).. but I was feeling so heaty I needed a soya milk to wash it all down..
Rose Macaron, $1
Then we were on our way back to the Suntec carpark when we passed by the Bakerzin (Suntec City) and I couldnt resist their 1 buck promotion for their macarons! Bought the rose and chocolate ones...
Chocolate Macaron $1
The centre was really dense and chewy but the exterior was not that crispy. I liked the chocolate one much more - the dark chocolate cream was really good! I think it was a rather chocolatey day.
We had enough of civilisation and decided we needed another road trip to nowhere so we tried to go to the Marina Barrage again (our first try was a fail) - this time round, we were luckier cos we spotted the blue signs that led us there - but it was a real merry go round.
The curvaceous walkway up..
It feels like a science centre of sorts esp the exhibits..
Heh Kelly this is the splish-splash pool that the lady was talking about..for your info =)
There are many piers around..
See what I mean by being Science-centre-ish, the curvaceous walkway leads to this field and there was a big Solar panel here..

If you look carefully both signs say keep off the grass but one says newly laid and the other still maturing...looked pretty much the same to us laymen (no pun intended)
Best to come in the evening, its wonderful watching the city lights come on and the transition to darkness.
Dark. And tired... it was fun getting lost with the right company (and a petrol-loaded car). Thanks mountains I never have enough of you all! =)
