Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck

Vegetables (plants have difficult names to remember...)

Cold Chicken with sesame sauce (animals are easier)

Vegetables with trio of eggs

Awesome possum Peking Duck Pre op

Entering by layers.... to be ingested with sugar grains

Chops...

After some buzzing....

Post Markus Schulz (it was fab 1am-5am set, with a power encore) I didnt have much of a snooze after macs bf at clarke quay - prob settled into bed at 830am and by noon I was up getting a text from qian post hair makeover, so I headed to pickup the texts from novena and the brows done before picking her at Wisma to go to the 1st month's of Ewan. The pm kinda passed in a blur after the nasi lemak from Adam road - the usual food coma sunk in and I was in tandem with the baby too. Loved the scribes on the walls. Makes it so personal.

Missed out on the bath + monopoly deal while I was totally knocked out on the sofa (they ripped all the cardboard from the play room without me noticing) and around 720pm we departed for Paragon to try Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck (Paragon, Level 4). We went for the 2nd seating as the 1st was full. Uber posh and the food was also quite mind blowing.

Cosy it was in our little pavilion (though we were next to a boisterous room with multiple courses!!!) with our own pillows. We booked our duck for the night and had some veggs to detox - poached spinach in 3 eggs, a lovely lotus flower crunchy cold vegs which I really cant remember the name of!, and a chicken with glass noodles + veg cold dish to start off.

The Peking Duck was of cos the most exciting part - the first eat was the top most layer to be eaten with sugar, and 2nd eat was the skin and meat to be eaten with veg and crepe, and the 3rd was the minced duck stir fry to be eaten with the lettuce. love them ALL! J is gonna bring her future in laws here while I'll bring my fam here too esp since we all love duck.

Thanks for the treat Qian. Cant wait for E to be vack though Qian will be away by then. Happy birthday 0.25 ;) thanks for your mag too J - bless your lovely nephew, congrats!!

Paradise Inn

Last day of T2 when A left to t1 and I was alone with a good list. Except for the fact that A.L was not willing to leave the bunk at all, and the sn couldnt conc after that! But we settled for social os, and then headed out to East point for lunch. We initially wanted to eat at Eighteen Chefs (too full) , Eatzi (nowhere to be found) so we settled for Paradise Inn (East Point) for lunch.
Asparagus.
Hotplate Tofu.

Triple egg with vegetables - xj's favourite.

Prawn balls with salted egg - my favourite, but A doesnt eat these!!
Codfish - small slice, but smooth and really tasty. I prob can finish this all on my own.
Fried chicken - this had a ginger taste to it, and i guess the sauce must have had a tinge of it (I didnt look at what they ordered).
Egg custard for me while most of the rest had mango sago and A had his tangyuan.

We headed back for W to whip into shape the student, and we exited very soon after. If only everyday could be like this, work would be so much to look forward to! (not like there's not enough food in the dept though....)

Putien

Tues was dsot, and with a handful of pts on the list, j being post call and i zoomed thru much of the work and off i went to dsot for the elbow and butt, while j rounded up and eventually helped m. We all gathered at cso after for team lunch (really happiness, these days - breakfasts and lunches all w em) soon after a sumptious fried meegoreng bf just hours before that.
We split into two cars- plan to use mine was junked and we went in R's messy (but much roomier) car and we met at Putien (B1, Tampines Mall), albeit amidst horrendously full car park and the lousy barrier that took ages. We decided to order from the Prosperity Menu for 8 (there were 9 of us)
Prosperity Yu Sheng
Usually I have this with Parang fish so its my first with salmon - salmon tastes too good to be with the equally tasty yusheng. Chanting those cheng yu was a challenge!

Three Varieties Thick Soup(Sea Cucumber, Bamboo Pith, Crab Meat)

Comfort food.

"Hua Diao" Fresh Prawns
As fresh as can be! Never eat much prawns outside either cos Gran cooks too much prawns at home.
Deep Fried Squirrel Fish with Gravy
Very much like sweet and sour fish.

Homemade Beancurd
As Boss' wishes who felt like having this.

Deep Fried Chicken with Garlic

This is prob my favourite - it was dusted in cereal/garlic and gave it a really nice fragrance.
The other dishes not feature here were the Braised Bamboo Shoot with Assorted Mushrooms (very good!!crunchy and lathered with the yummiest gravy), Longetivity Noodles (basically, fried mee sua in the lightest way possible) and a Peanut Soup for dessert with tiny mochi to boot.
Again my roots and why this line again, and the mispronounciation of many a name got the table in fits. Thanks Mr F and Mr S for the treat, and farewell Mr F! I was in the right theater even when I was in the student, no less, by the way!

Qun Zhong Eating House

Noodles with mushroom sauce

Steamed Vegeterian Dumplings
Red Bean Pancake
Dumplings in Rose flavoured water (left) and Osmanthus (right)

It was the Thursday before Deepavali and chongs and i went out for dinner after an absolutely shag day. For a start it was early cos of M and M's then didnt round finish then poor c had to run about loads! Kels also switched her call (planned for an outing with her) but i managed to try obriens with her still and some catching up. The big eats and salmon cheese was good but a tad ex for sandwiches i could easily do myself...holiday plans with that babe to firm up soon (who's on leave! i must book one of her days).

By 8 plus most people disappeared but C and I were still around - wanted to jio Matt but he had dinner home so we arranged to meet next week. C and I then took a ride down Maxwell to try QunZhong Eating House (21 Neil Road). Chongs said the last time hl brough her here and she was quite blown away by the chinese food and the dumplings here (and even brought her family We were lucky to get a parking lot at the carpark outside (cos if not,we'd be at Maxwell!) and lucky for the fast moving queue. Had to share table though, very much like Hong Kong days. We eventually shared a round table with a very very quiet couple who did not mumble a single word to each other. Its really not the first couple I've seen who behaves like that- sad is the married mundane life.
I saw the menu - a really simple one only 16 items and a picture for them all - noodles, dumplings, tang yuan and pancakes. The Chinese Pizza was completely sold out.

The noodles with mushroom sauce (vegeterian) came in first- nothing too spectacular. The vegeterian dumplings were also quite different from the ones I eat at Crystal Jade - I guess I'm used to the sticky crystal skin ones there. Here, it is the normal dumpling skin texture and stuffed with minced vegetables and taupok - it went quite well with the chilli on the table.

But what was really good was the Red Bean Paste pancake - it like a really thin crusted fried nian gao with red bean paste within. Freshly fried and piping hot - the crust was crispy and yet not oily. Awesomeness.

The rose flavoured and osmanthus flavoured tangyuan (sweet dumplings) were also mighty awesome. Its like sweet dumplings in tea/floral flavoured water. And the dumplings were so soft and fillings yummy - I had many red beans, a peanut, and a walnut paste (with bits of walnut). Really really good (thought I still like the peanut soup at the Ghim Moh Market Ah Baling).

But by 10pm we were rushed out of the restaurant - closing time! we were shoved the bill and told x 2 to go. We dragged our tired selves out to the taxi/car for home. Such an experience that reminds me so much of hong kong. gonna miss C (my new hubs) when she goes off to Japan.

7th Storey Restaurant

It was a Sunday well spent at Jasmine's sister's Jean's wedding at Marina Barrage (though the parking was a nighmare at the start with a foul mouth of a errant driver). It was a lovely venue (though it was sweltering!). It was such a blessed weekend with a birthday and a wedding !
Children were horsing around in the fountain behind the stage ;P congrats to Jean and Hansel!

Dinner was at the 7th Storey Restaurant (Marina Barrage). We were the lucky group that got to sit in the restaurant instead of the al fresco buffet lol . Dinner started with the Sharks fin soup.
Love the plump scallops inside here... Abalone and Vegetables in braised sauce which was really yummy...

Loved the steamed fish too!

Ate way too much chicken so much so that the table was cheering me on to finish up the latter when the dessert was inaccessible to me... Jas was a lil chez off that it was supposed to fried chicken (which was yummier) hence the haggling post dinner ;P i don't mind, chicken in any form is yummy.

Stayed on with Jas towards the end when i got endowed with a bottle of wine !! thanks babe and congrats once again to Jean!

Baits by Ding Tai Feng (Resorts World Sentosa), Jones the Grocer(Dempsey)

Today was a fine day after 17 hour marathon and woke up just in time to find gran downstairs for breakfast. lets change the routine sunday so i went with her to church and listened to the funky hokkien sermon - getting jolted about fathers day, and the fact that fathers and mothers day needs to be around so children rem to be filial at least once a year =P and the lack of need for wives/husbands/kids day cos such love is natural on a daily basis and there is no need for a special occasion to commerate it. Food for thought. How often do you express your love for your folks?
todays sermon was basically about the need for being truthful and straightforward in life, and its rather sad that most people put up a front to impress and to get on in life, and only in a state of intoxication do people reveal their true self. Honesty is a value instilled by elders, and if the elders do not impart this, each generation will degenerate exponentially, and dishonesty breeds dishonesty. This is definitely nurture mostly, hardly nature. In a bid for self survival its hardly a brotherhood mentality in mankind. To remain civil and civic minded requires conscious reminding and self check so that we do not go astray.
And its so important to reward your children for their honesty. Do not chide them for being honest and reporting their breakage/failure/falls/dismeanour/misbehaviour else they will never trust you to help them with their failures. You only prolong the agony, not help resolve their problems.
My gran protects me so much she's such a love =) it is my pleasure to bring her out today. My intention was to bring her to Vivo to try Bosses, but somehow our spontaenity led us to Resort Worlds Sentosa. We somehow went thru the gantry unscathed - btw, turn LEFT to the RWS carpark, i turned right to the hotel drop off but ended up touring the island before going into the VERY EX! carpark. 7 bucks for first hour and 2 bucks for subsequent hour zomg.
We went up to Universal Studios (really regret not allowing gran to bring her smaller bag with the brolly), and took some gorgeous photos (it was sweltering hot so the colours super brilliant at the expense of all the uv hahaha), and zoomed into Hersheys World. Picked up Reese's Whites and the assortment Nuggets which we bought before in US (mainly for mummy who says its not enough!).
We walked around the shopping gallery, the hotel, past the casino (dont go casino after church la, haha), and then after a round about, past some lost locals at Hard Rock Cafe, we ended up at Baits by Ding Tai Feng (Resorts World Sentosa). We entered by the wrong entrance, and after going thru the semi full restaurant to the proper entrance, we were greeted by a queue of 2 groups. Waited again (sigh DTF always gotta wait), but we were ushered in quite fast. By then we were melting away.
Love this xiaocai - sour doused vegetables in chilli oil. The seaweed and tau guar were aplentiful. Somehow this reminds me of the doused noodles in Hong Kong - the small stalls within the shopping mall, where you can select the noodles and vegetables
This awsome Duck in spring roll was just amazing. Smoked duck (the skin seems fried too) in freshly fried crisp and thin spring rolls, really really yummy.
Claypot tofu was nothing much to shout about, except there was plenty of seafood within. Should have gone for the sizzling hot plate tofu.
Steamed vegeterian dumplings. The innards has minty veggies and was really tasty with the dipping chilli paste.
Gran was really full so i ended up eating much of the above =P, we quickly zaoed off to get the car to get out. haha! 2 hours = 9 bucks. Otw to Baits I saw 7th heaven and i shall try it another time. Apparently they have soups and savoury stuff there now.
Sent Gran home, then met up with mountains - at first supposed to be at Holland V but then after their crystal jade lunch at Holland v with pri sch mate, jo, plans to go essential brews were shelved cos well, the shop is shelved! what happened!
decided to head to Jones the Grocer (Dempsey Hill) thereafter.
Fans of fruitshakes was the new couple while qian and i stuck to our milky chocolatey choices. Qian's chocolate milkshake and my mudslide coffee on the right. Was between mocha irish coffee (ice blended) and mudslide but chose the latter as it came with a scoop of chocolate chip chocolate icecream. Really yummy, with all that chocolate sauce within too!
Anti pasti selection - we chose to replace with cheeses and pumpkin, and I thought this platter was rather interesting. I loved the stuffed tomatoes and the powdery cheese and the roasted pumpkin.
The crusty bread (that came with the platter) was also delicious esp when doused with the cream cheese from the platter.
Jas had to join her sister at gran's church to plan the wedding, so i sent qian back and headed to novena for books and bought 2 dresses!! spree alert man, the last trip to chinatown cost me a dress and a jacket and top. wow M, you're not the only one seeing red in your account.
Thanks for the sexy slippers jas and the yummy sweets qian =)

The Mask

Thursday beckons the second last day of greg's stay before he goes on leave for PACES so all the best to him! His treat for our team, and it was a lovely 2 hours outta the hustle and bustle of shaggh. The Mask (418 Serangoon Road) is near his house at Farrer Park and we were quite lucky to get the parallel lot nearby as 1) it was a wet wet day and 2)the shaggh buses anywhere queues were ridicuolous.

They commanded us to drop all work and all we did was relax for 2 hours. This place offers a 50% off during lunch time, and Greg is a regular here. He tries to patronise it more cos he likes the good food here and he's afraid the unbrisk crowds will force it to close ;S This place serves Chinese fusion - with mainly Indian. There is an Indian restaurant next door and apparently is owned by the same boss (of ?ethnicity).

The dishes we have here had a heavy Indian influence (think: curries). And most of these were recommendations, not in their usual menus. Greg ordered the dishes and he says that usu he orders off their menu.

We started with Achar, and I ate most of this and ordered another one. kinda got a rep in my team for eating nasi padang/spicy soup om haha.

Egg tofu with vegetables in pumpkin paste. And lotsa Gingko.
i LOVE this fish head!! it was sweet and spicy and absolutely delicious with the steaming rice.
Curry chicken was a little to sweet for my liking.
Salted egg fried prawns was also another winner. It tastes as good as it sounds, a salt bomb it was.
Navya's naan.
Convos revolved alot on travel (aussie and india), something i really hope to do end july!
By the time we crawled back it was 2 plus and we missed the pleural tap. Small price for the great meal we had, and the only one out of shaggh and hopefully more to come k pek!

Old Airport Road Food Centre

Today's the first day of the last posting ever (hopefully), and after the nus lectures on spine/LL/hand, we zoomed down to Old Airport Road Food Centre; cos D didnt drive he and weeming didnt join us for lunch as they hitched a ride from enming.
Initial confusion but after pickin Marc and Jeremy from the bstop we left for the East. The multistorey carpark is less crazy than the ground level one, though i momentarily forgot where i parked =P

When I came, eveyone split up to buy food for everyone, and it seemed rather like a picnic, with chinese music in the background to add to the atmosphere. At least here, the queues are not crazy and no one rushes for tables.

I finally got to try Nam Sing Hokkien Mee - the first time I am trying this cos this stall uses veg oil. It tastes similar to what my grandma cooks at home - but my gran's stock of prawn heads gives much more aroma to the noodles. It reminds me of comfort home cooked food, and is good for me since I am just recovering.. Its divine on the Makan Sutra meter btw..

Toa Payoh Rojak never fails to impress, and the sauce always seems to accumulate right at the end, even though it seems quite dry at the start...Wanted to buy youtiao to dip into the huge amount of sauce left but K and D couldnt find..
And the repeat order of the Freshly Made Chee Cheong Fan .. Mushrooms and Prawn - this is one of the best (or maybe it IS the best) chee cheong fan I tried, simply cos the silky sheets of rice flour are just melt in your mouth smoothilicious!

We headed back to cgh, with trouble with parkin( in more ways than one), and congregated at the lounge for admin. Many false alarms, before heading for skc's revision at ncc after that - our day ended at 830pm, 12 hour days are just insane.
