Naked Finn lunch

To secure a place at the Naked Finn ( Gillman barracks) at lunch, be here before the doors open at 12. In fact, the folks were kind enough to let us hang out inside the cool air conditioned shack before they started the service. kudos !

My favorite dish of the lot. Crisp ends and nicely grilled. Oh so good with just that bit of salt

Barramundi. Crisp skin is again the most awesome. Found a new love the kang kong and rediscovered the love for the piquant bee Hoon.

As with other lobster rolls.... Tiny ! But can't complain too much for the price. Half the price of pince and pints. Extra points for the airy fairy butter roll.

Would be back once the shack gets renovated:) would be our third time ( and more to come !) happy second my dear :)

Also met the lovely Jess and tian pre-delivery- congrats on the lovely newborn!

Au petit salut

The last time I was here was prob the first luxe lunch I had with Brevis.. It must have been years ago and I'm pleasantly surprised to find the menu lunch options expanded for each course. A welcome change:) 3 course lunch for 38++

Snails which make me miss those in Spain.. The garlic butter was most moreish.

J had awesome steak and I had the fish which I felt needed a tad more flavour to it

Frozen cappuccino.. An atas affogato this is.

Quiet place to catch up over lunch in a quaint little bungalow. Perfect for a rainy day hangout!

&sons

Vascular weekx1 mid week break at &sons( China Square). Too many eateries here ! The platypus lobster place looks awesome. &sons is surprisingly not too crowded ( a manageable work crowd) with a mix of bar seats and table seats. Of cos we were atop the bar seats.

Awesome smoked cheese and truffle pasta. The smoked cheese was grilled further and tasted like a sausage.

Beef is so so ( lukewarm ) but cod is lovely in a salsa sauce. Flakes off in a instant.

Mushrooms - uber cheesy and creamy. Chunks of cornmeal inside this dish.

Panna cotta flambeed. Base tasted like a light cheese ( when in fact it's panna cotta), another later of cream and the whole dessert torched and topped up with strawberries. Very interesting.

Would be back to try their array of cheeses.

Dinner at Kith, Quayside isle

Awesome incidental catchup with J and ian at vivocity before a round of dip and fries at TBC before the storm and rain hit us at dinner at Kith, Quayside Isle. Had poached salmon which was lovely with hollandaise. Just missing my bread and eggs :p and the other J to finish up the tomatoes.
Drinks at Woo bar after. Plans for French open screenings up ( and over :p)

Petit menu

Had a late lunch with mom at greenwood to satisfy her fish and chips craving before meeting my student and then J, for our dinner date night. Discovered a really lovely place called Petit Menu (Aqueen hotel, Lavender Street- beware there are two Aqueen hotels in the same area !) with pocket friendly prices and innovative dishes presented quite stunningly. Definitely worth the trouble of the travel and the horrific parking!

Lavender scented pumpkin soup- the lavender really added a new dimension to the pumpkin soup. Again comparing with the base line of J's home cooked soup, this is really of a different standard. The lavender balances out the pumpkin. With Wakame seaweed, puffed up pumpkin seeds and Granny Smith apple balls by the side.
Sea bass with ratoutoille and quinoa.. We liked the sides more than the main:p the crisp fish skin was probably what I enjoyed the most.

Salted egg soft shell crab fettuccine- this was quite mind blowing ! This ang moh mee pok is really the best noodle to soak up the salted egg yolk, firm and coated in its entirety. With sweet tomatoes and curry leaves to top it all. Ingenious !

If you have a posb or DBS card you get a complimentary dessert with every 2 mains- so we ended up ordering two desserts. The first was this deconstructed Black Forest. The cute plant pot contained a hazelnut crumble with a tiny leaf ( this chef really likes this tiny leaf which seems to star in many dishes). Our tiny wee at home has found a new friend and potentially a new home :p and even the sturdy bowl (which the waitress said it's so heavy she can pound sambal in :p)

Kaya toast deconstructed as a Mille feuille, with kaya cream, kopi tiam toast and atap chee purée, blueberries, warm kopi c sauce and mint espuma (which they poured out from a pot). Kaya toast usually marks the end of J's call so it's his happy food, but the eggs are usually in the bowl and the coffee in a cup:p

Really lovely place which obviously takes pride in the food and it's presentation we will want to check out the blow torched steak and chicken confit sometime :)

W39

Post tennis treat! We went to w39 (39 Jalan Mas Puteh) after an early Friday day for me ( short ds list ) and cohesion day for him. Played at KE till glare of lights killed our game. Was thinking really hard about tamoya udon but we decided to this homely neighbourhood joint instead. Has the vibe of windowsills, food vibe of morsels- but we LOVE the hearty portions at extremely friendly prices. Great find for the start of the year !!
king crab soup- the first of the January specials, with potato and leek. j was fiddling with the oil on the soup and wondering if it was truffle. Didn't get to figure it out but the cream went awesomely well with the generous chunks of crab.
king crab salad- tangy with mango salsa and tomatoes.
Our second favorite of the night - seared tuna with avocado. Very meaty tuna.
Baked mushrooms. j and I have mastered mushrooms enough to be of this standard ( or better, with the help of truffle oil :p)
The braised lamb was an awesome combination with the mantou- it was rather gamey on its own.

An awesome wind down to the first week  of posting. Back to the books momentarily ( and awesome Meiji milk and red bean icecream ) at home !

Jamie's Italian

Met the French trio for dinner and thanks to xx for coming early we managed to snag a place here ( an hour later) at Jamie's Italian (Vivocity), and we even managed to buy  our tickets to the Taming of the shrew before that !
Calamari
Mushrooms baked with cheese- prob my favorite dish of the night.
Fish in da bag- my main. Dory filet baked in a tomato based sauce and I think I found out the grain inside this bag after a cook out with J- it's giant Cous Cous !! ( of cos the one we experimented with didn't taste as good as this ...)
Tiramisu which has lots of mascarpone which is prob my favorite part of the cake . We also had a creme brûlée with lots of berries, but I'm not a fan of brulees, so ate more of the tiramisu.

This place is full of buzz, and for the crowd it attracts, the service here is good enough for us to feel at home. Food here is quite wholesome and homely ( well , standards better than our home experiment :p) so the only thing preventing a return visit is probably the insane queues!

Moosehead

We finally tried out Moosehead( Telok Ayer street)! On a drizzly day, we were feeling very toasty sitting at the bar right in front of the infamous charcoal oven... Great entertainment watching the chefs in action and having them host us and ensuring we were well fed, checking on us from time to time... He being the toastiest of us all ;) service here is absolutely wonderful.
Charcoal grilled eggplant... Very smoky. They really throw everything into the oven including the bread ( which was really crisp)
J's favorite - grilled octopus... One long tentacle real meaty and smoky. Crinkly tomatoes and baked baby potatoes topped it off. And we found out they put olive oil as a finishing touch in almost every dish:p from a mysterious red bottle.
Smashed eggs with truffle and onions and melt in your mouth mushrooms. I love eggs served in a pan,and this is indeed one beautiful breakfast mess.
Seabass all grilled to perfection. Love the skin.
Wagyu shoulder -tender towards the centre but our soft spot is still the onglet from burnt ends :p
Grilled pineapple, crumble , coconut yoghurt and j's favorite meringue. And that mysterious apricot layer

Menu changes as and when the chef pleases though they keep the crowd favorites. This is prob one of our favorite for now ;)

La cicala

Birthday dinner at La cicala at Club street . Great atmosphere and food to boot... This place eluded us the last time so we headed to Los primos (still, worth a detour for its great tortilla !!)
White bait
Grilled vegetables and tomatoes with goats cheese ( a great combination)

Miso cod - prob the best I've had in awhile
Generous portion of this yums squid ink paella. Simply lip smacking.

Lovely company ;)

Burnt ends

Snagged the last two bar seats at Burnt Ends (Teck Lim Road) - you can actually phone up between 6-630 pm after which they don't take phone reservations. We were lucky ;-) (even with parking). There is a separate bar seating for people to wait for the main bar seats- and just one private table that seats four further in.

We quite like the dynamic atmosphere here and watching the chefs at work- j had lots of fun with his kinotopic.
Salmon skin with ikura- interesting take on this Japanese appetiser. It's an all in one.
Smoked beef- dressed lightly and matched the sweet biscotti.
Lamb and goats cheese crostini(left the burnt ends of the bread behind lol). It's a great combination which I think I will try to do next time.
Smoked quail eggs- love the runny yolk. Also an option to add truffle.
Squid with corn and leek. Not as smokin as our smoked octopus at dada.
This kingfish is uber sweet über tender and went well with the Japanese seaweed. Prob second best dish of the night.
The honor goes to this onglet- which j told me its actually the skirt cut. Minimal fat and rare, yet charred on the outside- recommended!! Better than the skirt at Skirt IMHO;)

Went back to reassess and to await eot, before planning out our trip. Exciting with a plan in place ;-)

French ladle

Scopes am/asc pm, finished on time and for once, full attendance on the dot at dinner place , French Ladle at Pandan Valley condo. Love the convenience here- near home , free parking right in front of the restaurant.

Excellent warm and cosy atmosphere, felt like I was being hosted for a dinner at someone's home. Lots of magazines to browse too, am sure it will be nice to hang around post brunch on a weekend. We shared the truffle fries ( with lots of Parmesan cheese ) and French onion soup. ( lots of sweetened onions ). I had the board special- the barramundi which came with mash and butter. Ended up koping most of xuans fries and salad after she was done with her steak:p Pek had a mushroom risotto.

Enjoyed our convos about human behavior and food webs haha. Can't wait for our next French date (prob at toots or shelter in the woods!)/dirty dancing.

Saveur

Today was supposed to be discovery centre iron man with the boys but dad couldn't snag tickets so we are here at the second outlet of Saveur at Far East Plaza, where Mei has been wanting to try for some time.

Thanks to the bro for coming early to snag the table ;) ordered many appetizers - doubled the salmon confit and mushroom cappuccino, and I had the sea bass, mom had the cod( realised I only took photos of the fish -.-) j had the duck confit and the other side of the family also shared another duck confit in addition to their individual. My dad enjoyed his beef loads. Can't believe I met m here ( with a half sized a !!) who couldn't make it to sushi bar. It was nice catching up that wee bit.

Thanks J for coming with mom and me to shop! Knew you were pretty knocked out from your half call :p

Can't wait to try le bisrot at stadium !
