Fortnight+Windowsill Pies

After my consultants recommendation of the sweet pies ( Windowsill Pies) and xqs recommendation of the savory section (Fortnight) we decided to make our way here since I thought it was near his work place.. Was almost here for dessert the same night ty was here!

Extremely whimsical place with a small but great home cooked savouries.

Battered eggplant so long it looked like fish and chips! Excellent with the salsa.
Grilled cheese sandwich with an extremely nutty bread. Also came with a yummy salsa.

Steak sandwich came with a pudding kind of bread - chewy and sweet and went well with the caramelised  onions and meat.

We chose camp symmetry ( has white chocolate, cookie crumble, truffle and raisins) and smores ( chocolate and his favorite coffee scented marshmallow) to end it off. Mm! This was much better than the choc peppermint pie I had a Symmetry :)

Last meal before I'm off to aus :)

Fordham and Grand

Some quick shopping to pick up my hats at Haji lane and to check out the merchandise at the new Robinsons at Heeren before heading to this very discrete Fordham and grand at Craig road. ( note to self: need to try Selfish gene and Binomio soon !) Quiet, intimate and if I may say, a little forbidding. Not many customers but still, our orders got mixed up!!
Artichoke, eggplant and mushroom
Greenpea risotto - very unlike us to have something vegetarian !
Scallops and jumbo crab 饺子- gone in a bite

More plans and rocking music( courtesy of 3 crowns) at Craft bakery at holland village where we had the 3 inch sin Baileys cake. Kept looking at the baileys tart :p

Melbourne!! Stereosonic festival !!

Jaan

Celebrated moms birthday at Jaan, finally got to try their set lunch ;) and finally, a weekend off ! :)
Chicken mini fried dumpling , cheese on a cracker( with an uber cute clip), hummus with papadum and eel on a spoon, clockwise :p
The amuse bouche -Mushroom cappuccino, with bits of walnut
Fish with crayfish- most tender and a crisp skin batter. Served with lentils
The most memorable dish - Brie with chestnut stuffing, walnut and raisins and an über awesome truffle icecream !
Pre dessert palate cleanser- sorbet with a coconut meringue
Poached peer for dessert
Chocolat for mom
And an awesome petit fours to finish the awesome lunch. My favorite is the lolli in the middle- rosemary icecream Coates with chocolate.

Highly recommends for special occasions! Great service, ambience and surprises from chef in between the ordered sets. Fine dining without being to spiffy ;)

Violet oons kitchen

Celebrated jas birthday here on a Wednesday, two days after the actual, at Violet oons kitchen (Bukit Timah Road). Modern take on peranakan cuisine - think pasta and pizza with a twist. She still does serve the traditional dishes like the ayam buah keluak and curry chicken.
My favorite tahu goreng in a longitudinal presentation. I think I do miss eating teloh goreng!
Meatless meatballs- prob my favorite of the night
Curry chicken with jala - the latter being a stringy potato pancake. Curry was über thick and lemak mmm.
Pita bread with chilli crab dip and ayam buah keluak dip. My favorite part was prob just the bread ( which I dipped in the curry)

Tapioca cake - über good with gula Melaka.
Bread and butter pudding with whiskey - not my cup of tea but the girls seemed to like it.

Nice drizzly night having dinner with loved ones, bliss ! Happy birthday jas!

Tamoya udon

This is my second time here- first was with my siblings when I had the extra chewy version and it came dry with a separate dip. It warrants a separate visit as this is on the top 50 list to try ;)

Omg this is the best recovery food after tennis ( perfect after rain weather and improved ground strokes :p ). Raw egg udon ! Tasted oh so fab with the crusted bits of tempura.add seaweed and spring onion for garnish.. The dip is not really necessary cos it tasted too good on its own !!

Out of the tempura we had (prawn, sweet potato, eggplant and pumpkin ) our favorite was prob the last. Sigh an inspiration for our remaining quarter in the fridge :p

Ended the night with Paris masters finals djokovic vs ferrer pity for a déjà vu 2-0. Crabbies ginger beer- this time with strawberry and lime never fails to knock us out :p

The Naked Finn

Post post call on a slightly drizzly Tuesday night, made our way to Naked Finn ( though I thought I wanted to save it till pre call thurs )... Sat at the counter watching the mixologist do their thing ;) think we much prefer to watch cooks lol.
Really happy we got to try their momo- cocktail! He showed us the peach liqueur he used in addition to the fresh momo, grossly pounded into a mixture with dry gin. We have thus started the countdown for the hunt for this momo liquer
We went ala carte- had the twin portion of squid, scallop cerviche and the piquant vermicelli. I like the crunch ends of the squid much.

Had the fried barramundi too the crisp skin is done to perfection.
We had the prawns as well. J had fun peeling all 12 of them haha.

They were nice to give us a conplimentary serving of the pumpkin soup! Much reminds us of the pumpkin ( unintended ) purée that we tried to cook on Sat night lol. Too bad they ran out of the mussels !!

On a separate note ... Happy eating and posting ;) whatever floats your boat.

Jamie's Italian

Met the French trio for dinner and thanks to xx for coming early we managed to snag a place here ( an hour later) at Jamie's Italian (Vivocity), and we even managed to buy  our tickets to the Taming of the shrew before that !
Calamari
Mushrooms baked with cheese- prob my favorite dish of the night.
Fish in da bag- my main. Dory filet baked in a tomato based sauce and I think I found out the grain inside this bag after a cook out with J- it's giant Cous Cous !! ( of cos the one we experimented with didn't taste as good as this ...)
Tiramisu which has lots of mascarpone which is prob my favorite part of the cake . We also had a creme brûlée with lots of berries, but I'm not a fan of brulees, so ate more of the tiramisu.

This place is full of buzz, and for the crowd it attracts, the service here is good enough for us to feel at home. Food here is quite wholesome and homely ( well , standards better than our home experiment :p) so the only thing preventing a return visit is probably the insane queues!

Sushi airways

With clinic ending at 6 and exits after, headed to Js who's also caught up with an admin bomb in his own words. Almost headed to Liang court but detoured to a nearer Sushi Airways (20 Baghdad Street) for a sushi craving.

The restaurant is decked out to mimic an aeroplane, with plane like windows and seats. Even the menu is styled like a flight menu - would be great if air planes did serve food like this lol
Salmon tataki salad- like a carpaccio and J was rather amused by the chrysanthemum petals till he bit into the bulb of the stalk.
Double salmon - we were quite excited when they seared the top salmon... Reminds us of the gold standard of the seared fatty salmon in ryoshi sushi ( makes me salivate thinking about it ). This has a crisp salmon skin atop a seared salmon , beneath it a sushi mini maki dusted with spice.
We we're between a sushi platter and a sashimi platter and decided for the former... Lots of wasabi in those tiny tuna rolls ! My favorite is prob the mackerel, interestingly. All the sushi were jumbo sized, and really fresh.

The chef here really hosts us in a very fatherly manner, and when we saw him later on (outside the restaurant) asked why we weren't home yet it's starting to rain ! Quite amused:p

Moosehead

We finally tried out Moosehead( Telok Ayer street)! On a drizzly day, we were feeling very toasty sitting at the bar right in front of the infamous charcoal oven... Great entertainment watching the chefs in action and having them host us and ensuring we were well fed, checking on us from time to time... He being the toastiest of us all ;) service here is absolutely wonderful.
Charcoal grilled eggplant... Very smoky. They really throw everything into the oven including the bread ( which was really crisp)
J's favorite - grilled octopus... One long tentacle real meaty and smoky. Crinkly tomatoes and baked baby potatoes topped it off. And we found out they put olive oil as a finishing touch in almost every dish:p from a mysterious red bottle.
Smashed eggs with truffle and onions and melt in your mouth mushrooms. I love eggs served in a pan,and this is indeed one beautiful breakfast mess.
Seabass all grilled to perfection. Love the skin.
Wagyu shoulder -tender towards the centre but our soft spot is still the onglet from burnt ends :p
Grilled pineapple, crumble , coconut yoghurt and j's favorite meringue. And that mysterious apricot layer

Menu changes as and when the chef pleases though they keep the crowd favorites. This is prob one of our favorite for now ;)

Baja Fresh

Pre night festival weekend 2 and Post flea market at chijmes, where I bought a cheerful pair of gold flowers -.-
We ended up at Baja Fresh at Hotel rendezvous, where we had lamb tacos and a white fish salad. It's a really immensely popular fast food joint, but we were prob spoilt by the tacos at lucha loco. We are on this Mexican streak, will check out señor taco next !

The public can shift these cubes around !
Across the waters at smu
A blue print of our future dining table !

Coffee man roasters

Turkish breakfast- pita bread with battered egg, hummus and cheese balls, this was one vegetarian delight. Jill's had the French toast while Clare had the vegetarian breakfast - do note that they will chase you to the coffee bar if you dwell at the dining tables beyond your meal times! Nice coffee bar though , your partner ( who is facing you)  will be at an elevated platform. Interesting layout of the bar, communal tables and individual dining tables. Can't wait to try the Argentinian place upstairs !

Lucha Loco

Xue and I came by for drinks here ( past last order time ) and j and I tried to come by again one Friday night, but Lucha Loco at Duxton Hill as full to the brim - was almost banished to a corner with just one seat.

So we came by again at 6-ish on a weekday to find out what's the fuss about. It's indeed worth the fuss ;)
Grilled corn with parmesan cheese this was one amazing cob.
Prawn and octopus cerviche served in a glass jug, most succulent and citrusy.
Quinoa salad- simply love the sprout from the grain
Fish tacos
Lamb tacos
Scallops tacos

At 9 bucks a pop, these Mexican wraps certainly weren't cheap for the size but oh boy they were super flavorful ! Js favorite was prob the lamb and mine , the scallop.

This place has amazing food, music and ambience- love the bar setting and the alfresco area too. No wonder it draws the crowds... Great atmosphere ! Go early to snag a seat - both the boisterous bar and the alfresco area fills up pretty quickly.
