Met up with Qian before she flies off again on Monday. poor babe got stuck in a jam pre dinner but anyway she found a place to get her fries fix - well these were not potato fries, unfortunately. House (Dempsey) recently launched a few items - in particular non potato fries. This place brings back good memories of truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and of cos the 7 layer pancake right miss Pek ? ;)
Taro fries that was truffle scented ! I'm sure Kelly would love these.
Hazelnut pumpkin fries.. I like the thick batter but Qian sure doesn't ...
I liked the barley salad with the puny bits of crisp fried quinoa... Idea J ? ;)
Mushrooms of all sizes unite in this !
Sure would love to return to House to try the other 2 fries including the carrot one !

La Cantine
From a double date to a triple date, we had our next French grub date at La Cantine at Asia Square. Attempted to go to one raffles place to shop but was dampened by the rain .. Literally !
Headed back and sat at the al fresco area ( the indoors was closed for a private event... Pity )
The highlight was prob the French onion soup with foie gras ( it melted into the soup !). Cod and scallops were a tad small. Also pleased with the sorbet with lotsa lotsa berries ;) Service here was great despite them holding another party indoors. Felt very at home and the hosts were always checking on us.
Next would be the French place at pandan valley !

Yan Ting
Church with grams after waking up early (despite late night show !) and bib class, we headed to Yan ting at St Regis for lunch. Love the spaced out, quiet ambience here. Not too full, surprisingly and there is alot of private space - we were separated from other couples by heavy duty luxe curtains. Food selection was not massive, but we stuck to the same few usual suspects. Again she says she can cook the cod for me at home ;) we are both fans of the chewy Chee cheong fan with scallops. And the mini bowls of porridge was 9 bucks a pop. Gulp.
Had dinner with J's family that night at Imperial Treasure super Peking duck at my suggestion ( after Yi Qian intro us to it ... Hehe) and od on meat +++. Beef, duck, soon hock, but my new Favourite is the pepper prawn vermicilli... Very smokey and peppery I took all of Justin's vermicelli in exchange for my prawns ...

Recognize the franchises?
Secret recipe brings lotsa good memories of cakes and Japanese soba at Henry park apartments... Giant sponge and cream cakes and the cheese cakes...
Must say the old town white coffee kaya toast is super duper.
And the soy mocha in Starbucks used a different breed of soy from that in sg !
Recent overdose of nandos(fourth in the past months)... Everything I have the extra hot peri peri I'm reminded of the lip burn lol. This was a super dramatic presentation, and in a way cost us our flight back( we missed it ! We were at sogo after kl cc instead of mid valley yet we couldn't make it ..:( )
And of cos... Miss the twister fries...
Future music festival was a blast ! D1 with cosmic gate and armin and aly and fila) (one of them was missing !) and second with temper trap, psy, fun., Andy moor. Missed out on prodigy( who was at our hotel pool earlier!) and bloc party but ...it was still awesome possum;)

Saboten
Swapped clinic for eot/dot for my first tkr, then to asc for 3 tums(1 of which was a real egg like neurogenic one !), met the girls for some katsu at Saboten, Parco Millenia walk. Unlimited supply of shredded cabbage went fantastically well with the yuzu soya sauce whilst short dressed ( actually drenched lol) hers in sesame sauce. The girls order tenderloin and loin and I had the salmon katsu. Love the breaded croquette but I think the highlight was still the wonderful yuzu soya;) the green tea ice cream that came with the set took forever to melt so didn't manage to finish it :(
Keisuke Tokyo next date ;)
Looks like the tiny bento place that I went with the siblings is now replaced with ma Maison/monster curry :(

Our korner
The end of posting venue was courtesy of checking out the Restaurant Week site during breakfast and fatherhood talk at BS. Our Korner at Scarlet Hotel is a restaurant bar and we sat at the area previously belonging to Desire. Always been wanting to check out the Asian fusion food ( ESP the chili crab stuff) but it always closed too early for supper snacks.
My team loved the quiet ambience ( towards mid dinner we kinda seem to own the place for ourselves ) and the warm wood decor, and it was a great place to catch up- away from the rest of the ruckus at Ann Siang and Club street.
Laksa clam chowder was essentially like an ultra creamy laksa latte. Chilli crab sliders was a favorite, and I liked my crabmeat-soft shell crab-poached egg linguine. Think the poached egg is supposed to substitute the eggy sauce of the chili crab dish. 'twas fun mixing it all up.
But the most stylo dish has gotta belong to C - they torched her smoked duck pizza and it was in flames momentarily. Quite spectacular if you ask me though I am not sure how searing it this way adds to the taste of the pizza. A's crusted lamb chops looked super impressive too, the size and plating.
Ended with the chocolate tart which was quite a substantial , gao portion. Pity this place looked empty on a Friday night ( though the bar was filled ). Good food and ambience and great for big group catch ups. Would love a drink on the rooftop bar someday ;)

Ramen Keisuke Tori King
Minimalistic menu-3 flavors from which you can choose, yet customisable- the noodles consistency, oil and salt. You can also choose from 3 levels of toppings.I had the original , eggs, normal consistency, less oil and normal salt but I must say I liked S's black option. Was slightly spicy and fab with the bonito flakes ( which you can help yourselves too)Maybe when I'm braver I'll choose the green one ( I have a phobia for wasabi).
Love the self service of sides eg the bean sprouts( really massively od on it ), free flow eggs and bonito flakes and chili sauce.
Returned back to hd rds and one pile and a night of babysitting in the angio suite :(

The sushi bar
Post post call after an early day of only 2 cases(ar and right hem), I was all ready to shop and get our express pedis but alas! Cny cloud of sloth continues and Far East was still a ghost town :( ended up seeking happiness in this hole of the wall of a sushi place called The Sushi Bar, where I've been wanting to bring mummy to eat the chiraishi don for some time. I'm still gonna bring her cos Jillian and I ordered the following to try ( so everything else but that). And everything was really really good !
We had the large sashimi salad( it was a 5 bucks difference between that and the smaller size), which was fun for Jills cos she was tossing it solo like a yusheng. There was a mix of Chinese Yu Sheng vegetables and Japanese ones like the seaweed and jellyfish and there was even pok pok crackers...and even pink sugar ! She really had a lot of fun mixing it thoroughly but later regretted cos there was a lot of mayo ++. All in all very tasty, with the fish roe and sashimi topping up the mess. Lol.
I also ordered the salmon skin to share. Jills was pretty squeamish about it but I was successful in getting her to try(this instead of soft shell crab). The pink sauce with the fish roe was very very tasty much better than the usual mayonnaise.
The scallop men taiko carpaccio was also amazing. The mild cheese and fish roe really elevated scallop(essentially quite a tasteless type of shellfish) to new heights. Mmm. And to make up for the soft shell crab we ordered the soft shell crab aburi maki rolls. A tad confusion ( ESP for her who pops it all into her mouth at one go ) but I like dissecting the contents. I say go to bay sushi for makis if you like the sauces and the variety
I will be back for the chiraishi, and the grilled fish and steak. Great service despite no charged so we left them quite a big tip. Reverse psychology works ;)

Poulet
Pre cloud atlas at Grand, an empty Poulet at Great World City ( the lack of crowds here is really awesome !) plus the fact that it has eluded us all this while cos of the crowds at Bugis plus, and the fact that they promised us quick food means we spent the hour having dinner here ( and not using the lap top again lol). The roast chicken was tender albeit bland ( really prefer the seasoned chicks at Nando's!) but the star was the Parisian salad, and the mushrooms with the slightly overdone poached egg. We loved the chopped up salad(it was like a garden of trampled leaves) with pine nuts and cranberries(with the cherry tomatoes to him ). Miss Nando's loads. I will prob wanna try the French Onion soup here one day. Cloud atlas is best watched not post call/run/clinic/exits/pre journal club but as usual, fun supercedes. Have a good long weekend everyone!

Societe canteen and Laneway
Made grand plans to have brunch at either Supprette or Sarnies but it all boiled down to the lack of time in the end; rushed rounds and changes then headed home towards somewhere nearby- either simply bread or here but I'm quite glad we settled for Societe canteen at Cluny court. After the cramped parking at Serene we headed over to the place all smelling of toast and coffee ;) and its a great place to have some quiet time to read and browse, or catch up.
We ordered the eggs Benedict ( my picture got lost - and so did the people pic) and the baked eggs(which needed 20 minutes- we almost didn't have this cos we had no time !). We ordered the eggs florentine which came with mushrooms and spinach- it came atop a lovely brioche bread and two extremely long and skinny leeks on them.
We also ordered the baked eggs and it looked gorgeous - you'd like it if you like a tomato base. Lotsa cheese and spinach to top it all.
Quickly headed to Laneway where J dropped me off to queue and it was sweltering hot. Kinda missed a bit of kings of convenience ( great audience rapport) but they played for a whole hour! Other highlights were bats for lashes, kimbra, monsters and men( king and lion heart awesome possum ) and of cos the last bit of gotye. Can't say too much of the food though... We had the wraps again- him the kebab and me the senor tacor(lotsa rice and cheese).
It was quite a chase for the shade- first the flag then the leeching the VIP shade. Thank goodness for the bottle and the mat;)

Indochine Gardens by the Bay
We finally made it here on a day when rain or full bookings have been deterring our visit here. Parking was a breeze at the main car park but finding our way there was quite tricky .. Was trying to make our way here before sunset so that we can catch the day night transition.
Little did we know that there were 2 levels to the place ! We were hanging out at the restaurant and alfresco dining area - this level was higher than the ocbc walkway, and the views were framed by the branches of the super trees. But it was lovely peering through the branches ( and the see through grilled floor of the alfresco dining area !) to the picnicking families on the grasslands at the base of the trees and of cos the lovely scenery.
The dining menu was a fusion Asian genre of cuisine- we had the Vietnamese rice rolls with salmon, red fish carpaccio and beef carpaccio and the greens platter. We were submerged in the lights during the super trees light show but somehow we couldn't really hear the music ( thought sound travels up) but the blinking lights and changing colors were quite nice. Finally we overheard some diners talking about the roof top bar area so we shifted up too - a stair climb up
Here the views were unobstrtucted and the views was awesome. Looking at the bay being perched on the super tree having the 360 look around and the MBS light show from here was quite different. Didn't do drinks but had the coffee creme brûlée, my second brûlée today lol, after cafe g. Love this place will be back.

Cafe Gavaroche
The weekend before I hit clr the Paris girls met for a photo exchange and some catching up. Found a lovely gem in this place at tras street ( with a very discrete entrance !).With the sunlight streaming through the central courtyard, the tiled artwork, Parisian posters, the place was pretty damn gorgeous. Great service to boot too.
I was drawn to this place cos I thought they served the traditional French breakkie ( 8 euros- comprising of baguette, croissant, fruit juice and coffee) but we ordered eggs instead. I had the eggs Benedict with salmon instead and the girls had the baked eggs. Best eggs Ben With a lovely pepperish hollandaise sauce, and fried potatoes. Desserts of creme brûlée and chocolate pots x2 to end, with mocha to down it all we felt almost back in time to those good old days.
